ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Pink Out Breast Cancer is back for a fourth year in support of the Northeast Colorado Cancer Resource Association (NCCRA)! In the first three years of this campaign, we have donated more than $15,000 to the NCCRA in support of local cancer patients who need help paying bills not covered by other coverage.

If you don’t happen to be familiar, Pink Out Breast Cancer is a centralized effort spearheaded by Arnold Broadcasting (dba KNNG-FM, KSTC-AM) with our area volleyball teams as a part of CHSAA’s “Think Pink” campaign. We work with a local t-shirt printer to secure an at-cost price to produce “official” t-shirts that are in turn sold to support the NCCRA.

This year’s campaign will be run from October 1 through October 23. We will have more stops than ever before, with nearly all the stops broadcast on the radio! Here are the stops we will be at this year:
  • October 1 – Haxtun at Merino (Merino’s Pink Out) – broadcast on 104.7 King FM
  • October 2 – NJC vs. Otero (NJC’s Pink Out) – broadcast on 104.7 King FM
  • October 9 – Fleming at Peetz (Peetz’s Pink Out) – broadcast on 104.7 King FM
  • October 12 – Sterling vs. Roosevelt (Sterling’s Pink Out) – broadcast on 1230 KSTC
  • October 15 – Fleming vs. Briggsdale (Fleming’s Pink Out) – broadcast on 104.7 King FM
  • October 15 – Otis vs. Lone Star (Otis’ Pink Out) – no broadcast
  • October 21 – Holyoke at Haxtun (Haxtun’s Pink Out) – broadcast on 104.7 King FM
  • October 22 – Haxtun at Caliche (Caliche’s Pink Out) – broadcast on 104.7 King FM
  • October 23 – Weldon Valley Triangular (Weldon Valley’s Pink Out) – broadcast TBA

Sales of the “official” Pink Out shirts are the primary way we raise money for the NCCRA. Steger Graphics has been kind enough through each of the years this campaign has been done to print a sizeable number of shirts for the campaign.

Each school participating in this year’s Pink Out will be doing presales of their shirts to raise money for the cause. Contact your local high school volleyball team today to reserve your shirts! Supplies are available on a first-come, first-serve basis with sizes Youth Medium through 2XL available. Other sizes can be done but may cost extra.

We have shirt orders available at our studios at 803 W. Main in Sterling during normal business hours (7am to 4pm). Team pre-orders will be filled before in-studio orders.

At each Pink Out Night, we will also be watching each team play a “pink point” in honor of the fight against breast cancer with a specially ordered pink volleyball. Attendees at the event will have the opportunity to register to win the pink volleyball, which will be signed by the team. Donations will also be accepted at the Pink Out Night.

Arnold Broadcasting will also be stepping up efforts to raise money in the next week from local businesses who want to participate. We will be accepting donations of $0.25 per person that attends our Pink Out Nights. In years past, businesses have stepped up with their generosity and made it possible to pool together another $500 or more just for fans attending the games!

This year’s campaign has an added feature. This year’s special “bonus” will be putting the hair of Ben Blecha on the line. For every $1000.00 donated to the NCCRA this year, Sports Guru Ben Blecha will take 1-inch off his hair. The hope is to donate $8000.00 or more to NCCRA so we can meet the 8-inch length requirement for donating to Pantene® Beautiful Lengths. Last year’s campaign donated just more than $7200.00 to the NCCRA.

We are hoping that others in our area communities will also get in on this “hair pledge” and help build wigs for cancer patients as Pantene® needs six ponytails of 8 inches or longer to build one wig for a cancer patient. If you would like to get involved, please contact me at 970-522-1607.

The best part of this new feature, however, is what is at stake for the community that raises the most money. The team or community that raises the most money for this year’s Pink Out Breast Cancer campaign will get the honor of cutting my hair off during the Saturday Morning Sports Show on October 23, 2010 live on the radio from the NJC Cosmetology School. Last year’s top community raised more than $2300.00 in one night!

I look forward to working with you during the 2010 campaign!
