City of Sterling...Spring Clean-up Map.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Spring cleaning, for many, means breaking out the heavy duty cleaning supplies and giving our homes a good scrubbing. It is also a chance to clear our homes — inside and out — of the clutter that has accumulated over the cold winter months.

Sterling residents can take advantage of the annual spring cleanup, which starts next week, to get rid of those larger items that are no longer wanted or needed.

The city cleanup is designed to help residential trash customers in discarding oversized items from their households. Crews will pick up any items that are legally disposable at the Logan County Landfill. Examples of accepted trash include mattresses, lumber, furniture, bed frames, cabinets, washers, dryers, ranges, dishwashers, microwaves and water heaters. Appliances containing freon, such as freezers and air conditioning units, will not be accepted unless they are certified “freon free” by an approved freon reclamation center. Residents are asked to sort tires, metal and wood into separate piles and to bag, box or bundle loose material.

The weather forecast for this week, with lots of warm weather and sunshine, shows plenty of opportunity for spring cleaning, but the city asks that items not be set out more than three days prior to pickup dates.

The Street and Sanitation Department divided Sterling residential neighborhoods into four areas for the cleanup, and city crews will pick up items from one of the four designated areas each day of the cleanup. The city workers will not return to designated areas after the scheduled days, so make sure to have items set out on the right days by 7 a.m. on the first scheduled day for your area of town.

The schedule is as follows:
• Monday, April 19, and Tuesday, April 20 — residences north of Broadway Street and east of Division Avenue
• Wednesday, April 21, and Thursday, April 22 — residences north of Phelps Street and west of Division Avenue
• Friday, April 24 — residences south of Broadway Street and east of Division Avenue
• Monday, April 27, and Tuesday, April 28 — residences south of Phelps Street and west of Division Avenue

Every attempt will be made to follow this schedule, the city’s press release said, but inclement weather and the number of residents participating may require schedule adjustment.
To participate in the cleanup, residents should place items to be disposed in the alley adjacent to the property no more than three days prior to pickup dates. If there is no alley, materials should be placed near the curb. Materials should not be placed in the street or on the sidewalk blocking pedestrian or vehicle traffic.
