Officials did the ceremonial groundbreaking Friday afternoon on the expansion of the Sterling Police Department dispatch center expansion.

The dispatch center will be expanded to the corner of Fourth and Walnut Streets at a cost of about $468,000. Office of Emergency Management coordinator Bob Owens said they hope to have the new facility completely online by January, including a new 800 mhz radio system. The 911 Authority Board has already helped purchase several new 800 mhz radios for emergency agencies.

Construction of the building is hoped to be completed in about four months.
