The winter storm this weekend held off Saturday morning for a special fundraising event for the Northeast Colorado Cancer Resource Association. Excited children gathered with their parents at the Sterling Municipal Airport for a morning of take offs and landings.
10 year old Payton Swedlund says she had a good view of North Sterling Reservoir and her house from high above. Linda Williams-one of the mothers says the plane rides were a way to do something special for her children and help a good cause. Daughter,-Jessica Williams says the ride like a roller coaster with a view.
The special plane rides to benefit the NCRRA and to put smiles on the faces of kids ages 6 to 12 was the idea of Darrell Mertens-owner of Aero Applicators in Sterling. The pilots who donated their time were : Brett McEndaffer; Butch Graves; Dan Tietmeyer; Pat Klinzman; Darrel Mertens; Todd Wolfley; Tim McNear and Dr. Kimball. Along with the pilots-Sterling Oil and Gas, Daylight Donuts and Chip Steger all made donations to the effort.
The plane rides raised over $ 2,200.00 for the NCCRA with about 70 riders.
