Two high school football games featuring Northeast Colorado teams took place in "zero week" action.  Here are the results:

  • Friday - Yuma defeated Caliche 27-12
  • Saturday - Akron topped John Mall 28-7

The NJC Plainswomen Volleyball team went to North Platte to kick off their season and came out a perfect 6-0.  Sophomores Alyssa Muller (Libero), Amy Miller (Outside) and Karen Rivatto (Outside) all played well according to coach Amber Wiedeman.  Here are the results:

  • Friday - defeated Colby CC 2-0 (25-11, 25-10)
  • Friday - defeated Southeast CC 2-0 (25-16, 25-12)
  • Friday - defeated Williston St. 2-0 (25-14, 25-11)
  • Saturday - defeated Eastern Wyoming 2-0 (25-16, 25-21)
  • Saturday - defeated Cloud CC 2-0 (25-14, 25-12)
  • Saturday - defeated North Platte 2-1 (23-25, 25-16, 15-7)

College Volleyball's season served up a full weekend of action with Colorado, Colorado State, Denver, Northern Colorado, Air Force and Wyoming all battling in various early-season tournaments.  Sterling native Dani Minch and the CSU Rams played in front of a record 6,333 fans in a Friday night 3-1 win over Duke.  Here are the full results:

Also in action over the weekend were the Gonzaga Bulldogs, who feature Sterling High School graduate Schylur Edelman.  Their weekend highlight was a winning five-set thriller against Cal State - Bakersfield on Saturday.  Here are Gonzaga's results:

  • Friday - lost to Drake 3-0 (18-25, 16-28, 18-25)
  • Friday - lost to North Dakota 3-2 (25-23, 26-24, 17-25, 17-25, 8-15)
  • Saturday - defeated San Jose St. 3-0 (25-18, 26-24, 26-24)
  • Saturday - defeated Cal State - Bakersfield 3-2 (25-22, 25-14, 19-25, 25-27, 15-13)

The Colorado Rockies finally beat the LA Dodgers in a seies taking the series finale yesterday with an 10-5 win.  The Rockies took game two of the series 5-3 on Saturday after falling 6-2 in the opener Friday.  Here are links to the boxscores:
