ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Each week, the sports crew at King FM and KSTC shuffles through the stack of stats we get form all our area schools high schools and NJC sports programs and find the best performances of the week. Then, you get to vote for the performance you think should be dubbed “King of the Week” presented by Ertle Brothers Discount Auto. Then, each Saturday morning we announce the player you voted as simply the best!

Here’s the 411 on the rules…

  1. A player can be nominated as many times during a sports season as he/she can. Once players have been nominated for the “King of the Week” honor, your votes and your votes alone in the poll on the right-hand sidebar will choose which one was the best. In the event of a tie, the sports crew reserves the right to break the tie as they see fit.
  2. Please limit yourself to one vote per week. The sports crew should not need to consume their time in eliminating votes due to abuse. If the player you have the intense desire to vote for over and over truly had the best performance of the week, others will vote for that performance. (Note: Nowhere in the rules does it state you cannot encourage others to vote for a given performance). Please have respect for those who follow the rules and those who put on this process. Please do not require drastic changes to be made to this process.
  3. Once a player has been named “King of the Week” they do not become eligible to be nominated for “King of the Week” again until the postseason of their current sports season or the next sports season (whichever occurs first).
  4. And finally, I didn't think I needed to put this out there but apparently I do. King of the Week voting is for entertainment purposes only! This is not a prize-winning contest with trophies, plaques, scholarships, or anything else. This is merely internet public opinion of which performance was better. It bears no weight in any other venue.

Get it? Good. Now take a look at this week’s crop of nominees and vote in the poll on the sidebar for the one you would like chosen as “King of the Week” presented by Ertle Brothers Discount Auto:

Darian Johnson (Sterling) - The Tiger tennis team got off to a great start and Darian was a big part of that.  Competing in the always contentious #1 Singles slot, she went 2-0 last week.  On Wednesday, she downed Westminster's #1 (6-2, 6-2) while on Thursday she was one of just two wins on the team taking out Windsor's #1 (7-5, 6-4).

Ian Moreno (Fort Morgan) - Fort Morgan baseball is off to a great start.  Their 3-0 run has been thanks to Ian Moreno's bat.  Last week he went 5-for-7 with 5 RBIs, a HR, scoring 6 runs and stealing a base.

Jaden Winger (Yuma) - The Indians are off to a 3-0 start on the season.  Jaden was big in the week last week with wins over Haxtun and two over Wray.  Jaden went 7-for-12 with a HR, 6 RBIs, scoring 8 runs and stealing 5 bases.

Jake Baker (Sterling) - Hitting a stand-up triple is hard enough.  Hitting two stand-up triples is even tougher.  Doing it in the same inning is virtually impossible.  But Jake did just that against Berthoud last Thursday helping out the 12-8 win.

Kelsie Schaefer (Sterling) - The freshman has added to an already potent Sterling Soccer lineup.  In the Tigers' 4-0 win over Fort Lupton last week, Kelsie scored a goal and put another shot on goal that was kicked back on the rebound for an assisted goal.

Rolando Celis (Wiggins) - The Tigers have started the season where basketball left off and did so convincingly with a doubleheader sweep of Holyoke.  Rolando went 3-for-7 with 3 RBIs in that doubleheader and took the mound garnering the victory with 8 Ks in 4 innings of work.

Sohpia Reyes/Nicole Meininger (Fort Morgan) - It's been three years since Fort Morgan tennis has won a meet.  They did just that against Northridge last week and did so in dramatic fashion with a 4-3 win.  4th Doubles Sophia Reyes and Nicole Meininger garnered the meet-clinching win 6-2, 3-6, 6-2.

Trevor Piepho (Weldon Valley) - Trevor nearly hit for the cycle against Pawnee in the second game of the doubleheader last week.  Piepho hit a single, double and triple in the 22-12 victory after garnering two hits in the first win.

Congratulations to Sterling's Jake Baker named King of the Week by your votes!
