Each week, the sports crew at King FM and KSTC shuffles through the stack of stats we get form all our area schools high schools and NJC sports programs and find the best performances of the week. Then, you get to vote for the performance you think should be dubbed “King of the Week” presented by Ertle Brothers Discount Auto. Then, each Saturday morning we announce the player you voted as simply the best!
Here’s the 411 on the rules…

Andrew Kachel (NJC) - The redshit freshman started his first games at catcher since having Tommy John's surgery in September 2008 and he certainly showed the pop NJC recruited him for. On the week, Andrew hit 0.471 but stood out exceptionally in the weekend series at Lamar. Kachel went 6-for-10 with 5 RBIs on the road trip against the best team in the Empire Conference.
Brett Vlasin (Wray) - Versatility is the name of the game in the Lower Platte League and Brett showed that this week. He went 5-for-13 at the plate with 5 RBIs on the week and pitched a complete game with 12 strikeouts against Akron on Tuesday.
Brody Bueltell (Fleming) - The freshmen at Fleming are showing baseball may be their strongest sport and Brody was exceptional this week. Against Weldon Valley in a doubleheader on Thursday, Brody went 4-for-4 scoring 6 runs and stealing 8 bases. Additionally he threw 3 innings on the mound striking out 6 and allowing just one hit.
Garrett Pape (Fort Morgan) - Anytime you put up a 21-1 win, it's huge. When it's against a school that you have a long-standing rivalry with, it's ever bigger. Garrett was big for the Mustangs against Sterling on Thursday He threw 4 and a third innings in the game striking out 11 and walking just 1 and helped his cause at the plate going 3-for-4 with 5 RBIs.
Kirsten Schumacher (Sterling) - At the Windsor Invite on Saturday, the senior showed her prowress in the hurdles, both 100m and 300m. Kirsten won the 100m hurdle event with a time of 17.14 seconds, took 4th in the 300m hurdles with a 52.25 second spot, and helped her team take 5th in the sprint medley.
Kyle Carey (Otis) - The Bulldogs showed they're going to continue to be a force to be reckoned with in the North Central league for baseball and Kyle was a big part of that. Against Pawnee last week, Kyle went 4-for-6 with 2 HRs, 2 RBIS, 4 runs, and 2 stolen bases.
Tevin Gilbert (Wiggins) - The Wiggins Tigers salvaged a split against Wray and it was thanks to the bat of Tevin Gilbert. He was outstanding on the week going 6-for-11 and pitched a complete game, 11-strikeout performance.
