Each week, the sports crew at King FM and KSTC shuffles through the stack of stats we get form all our area schools high schools and NJC sports programs and find the best performances of the week. Then, you get to vote for the performance you think should be dubbed “King of the Week” presented by Ertle Brothers Discount Auto. Then, each Saturday morning we announce the player you voted as simply the best!
Here’s the 411 on the rules…
Get it? Good. Now take a look at this week’s crop of nominees and vote in the poll on the sidebar for the one you would like chosen as “King of the Week” presented by Ertle Brothers Discount Auto:
Cole Dahl (Fort Morgan) - One homer, great. Two homers, awesome. Three homers? That's Cole Dahl. In a 14-4 (5 inning) victory over Roosevelt last Thursday, Cole planted three balls over the outfield fence. He went 3-for-4 with 6 RBIs in the game.
Jon Korf (Yuma) - The Patriot League knows of Jon Korf's power. Yet, he still keeps belting balls. In a 14-0 (6 inning) victory over Skyview on Saturday, Jon had 2 RBIs in a 3-for-4 performance, successfully coming through with a hit both times he had runners in scoring position.
Logan Kruger (Holyoke) - Versatility continues to be a theme in the Lower Platte League. When you have the versatility that Logan does, you're bound to lead your team to success. In a doubleheader sweep of Haxtun on Saturday, Logan went 4-for-5 with a HR, drew 4 walks and stole 8 bases. Additionally, he threw a complete-game 5-hitter in the second of the double dip and struck out 11 Bulldogs.
Logan Moore (NJC) - A weekend 4-pack with Western Nebraska signalled it was time to move for the NJC Plainsmen. Freshman 3B Logan Moore took his role in the 2-hole seriously going 7-for-11 with 4 RBIs in helping his team win a weekend series for the first time all year. He also was a perfect 13-for-13 fielding balls to his position, flashing the defense he was recruited for at the hot corner.
Rolando Celis (Wiggins) - Sure Rolando can hit. He went 4-for-8 with a HR and 2 RBIs in a doubleheader sweep of Sedgwick County. But that's not why he's up for King of the Week. His no-hit pitching performance in the 7-0 back-end victory is why. No-hitters are rare but Rolando walked only 2 batters and faced the minimum number of hitters while striking out 14. That's nearly the best he can do!
Steven Richendifer (Sterling) - The Tiger senior matched his career-best pole vault clearing the bar at 14-feet this past weekend. The height was the second time he's cleared that height this season and gave him the top spot in Saturday's meet for the Sterling Tigers.
Congratulations to NJC's Logan Moore named King of the Week by your votes!
