Here’s the 411 on the rules…
Get it? Good. Now take a look at this week’s crop of nominees and vote in the poll on the sidebar for the one you would like chosen as “King of the Week” presented by Ertle Brothers Discount Auto:
Ashley Campbell (Sedgwick County) - Campbell was instrumental in the Cougars' second place finish in the 2A District II Basketball Touranment last weekend. She scored 21 points in a near-comeback against Akron in the championship game and dropped 10 points in a double-digit come-from-behind win against Merino on Thursday. Most notably, she had 5 offensive rebounds in each game.
Sydney Clarkson (Akron) - Clarkson was the leading scorer in the girls side of the 2A District II Tournament and was named Reliable Player of the Tournament because of her 19 points in the title game against Sedgwick County.
Kegan Carwin (Peetz) - The Bulldog senior was huge in the 3 games of the 1A District IV Tournament which Peetz finished runners-up. Kegan had 59 points, 17 rebounds and 6 steals in the 3 games.
Katie Hill (Briggsdale) - Hill was the leading scorer of all 1A or 2A Girls Basketball players covered on King FM last week scoring 59 points in the three games of the 1A District IV Tournament. She is the key to the Falcons' success as when she was held to 9 by Fleming in the Championship Game, the Falcons lost.
Bobby Lebsock (Sterling) - As the now 23-2 Tigers near the Final Four, big time players are going to have to step up in big ways. Bobby did that against both Mitchell and Centaurus last week. In both Friday's and Saturday's games, he dropped clutch buckets to get the wins.
Danielle Rinaldo (Merino) - It's not always about scoring. It was on Saturday for Danielle as her 26 points led Merino to a win over Holyoke and a 3rd place finish in the 2A District II tournament. But her 7 assists each night helped the Merino offense diversify, something they'll need if they're going to Pueblo.
Corey Stumpf (Caliche) - The Reliable Player of the Tournament, Corey came up big as Caliche won the 1A District IV for the fourth year in a row. He scored 41 points in the 3 games of the tournament and had 4 or more steals each game.
Evan Swanson (Holyoke) - Sometimes you need defense, sometimes you need offense. In the Dragons' case, they needed both against Wray in the 2A District II Championship game. Evan was the offense hitting two huge threes in the 3rd quarter to give Holyoke a lead they'd never relinquish.
Jenna Vandenbark (Fleming) - The Reliable Player of the Tournament, Jenna was big for the Fleming Wildcats who won the 1A District IV for the second year in a row. She scored 14 points in the title game giving the Wildcats the win and lifting the Fleming community's hearts from heavy to temporarily lighter.
Widgett Washington (NJC) - It wasn't postseason, but it may as well have been. Down 12 with less than 5 minutes to go, Widgett nearly pulled off the comeback against arch-rivals Western Nebraska. He finished the game with 33 points, including the 3-pointer with 1.9 seconds left that gave NJC a crack at a win. Unfortunately they fell 86-85.
Congratulations to Fleming's Jenna Vandenbark on being named this week's King of the Week!
