ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Each week, the sports crew at King FM and KSTC shuffles through the stack of stats we get form all our area schools high schools and NJC sports programs and find the best performances of the week. Then, you get to vote for the performance you think should be dubbed “King of the Week” presented by Ertle Brothers Discount Auto. Then, each Saturday morning we announce the player you voted as simply the best!

Here’s the 411 on the rules…

  1. A player can be nominated as many times during a sports season as he/she can. Once players have been nominated for the “King of the Week” honor, your votes and your votes alone in the poll on the right-hand sidebar will choose which one was the best. In the event of a tie, the sports crew reserves the right to break the tie as they see fit.
  2. Please limit yourself to one vote per week. The sports crew should not need to consume their time in eliminating votes due to abuse. If the player you have the intense desire to vote for over and over truly had the best performance of the week, others will vote for that performance. (Note: Nowhere in the rules does it state you cannot encourage others to vote for a given performance). Please have respect for those who follow the rules and those who put on this process. Please do not require drastic changes to be made to this process.
  3. Once a player has been named “King of the Week” they do not become eligible to be nominated for “King of the Week” again until the postseason of their current sports season or the next sports season (whichever occurs first).
  4. And finally, I didn't think I needed to put this out there but apparently I do. King of the Week voting is for entertainment purposes only! This is not a prize-winning contest with trophies, plaques, scholarships, or anything else. This is merely internet public opinion of which performance was better. It bears no weight in any other venue.

Get it? Good. Now take a look at this week’s crop of nominees and vote in the poll on the sidebar for the one you would like chosen as “King of the Week” presented by Ertle Brothers Discount Auto:

Aaron Reyes (Sterling) - Playing 4 games in a week is tough enough.  When two of those teams are undefeated, that's tougher.  Even tougher is to stand out as an individual on the Sterling Tiger team.  But after close examination of box scores, Aaron may have had to most impressive week.  Reyes scored 41 points (tied for the team lead) and dished out 11 assists (a team high) while turning the ball over just 5 times.  Sterling enters the break 8-0 after a 4-0 week.

Aaron Stieb (Caliche) - Seeing a point guard lead in points, or assists, that's not out of the realm of possibility.  But rebounds?  That's why Aaron gets the nomination this week.  Stieb was solid in the two Lower Platte League games last week amassing 23 points, 16 rebounds and 7 assists in wins over Merino and Haxtun.  On the week Stieb was also great at the free throw line going 8-for-11.

Byron Guy (Akron) - While the Akron Rams may not have won their own tournament over the weekend, Guy was impressive scoring 40 points over the two games, including 23 in the championship game against Otis.  Guy also pulled down 14 rebounds over the two contests against Arickaree and Otis.

Carle Walser (Merino) - The Merino Rams went to break on a high note beating 3A Limon 49-33 on Saturday.  Walser contributed nicely dropping 10 points and playing solid defense.  But her signature game came against rival Caliche where she scored 18 points and pulled down 5 rebounds in Tuesday's 61-34 win.

Jaden Winger (Yuma) - The Indians go to Christmas break undefeated in the 3A Patriot league and got two huge wins heading to break against Chase County, NE and Brush.  Winger scored 32 points over the two games.

Kegan Carwin (Peetz) - The Bulldogs capped off their pre-Christmas schedule with a 70-50 league win over Prairie.  Carwin continued to be the team's go-to weapon dropping 19 points on the Mustangs.  In addition to that, Kegan had 9 rebounds and 4 assists.

Kyle Carper (Holyoke) - The Dragons went 2-0 against rivals Sedgwick County and Haxtun on Friday and Saturday and head to break 5-1.  Carper was a huge part of that scoring 26 against Haxtun on Friday and 12 against Sedgwick County on Saturday.  He also amassed 15 rebounds over the two games.

Congratulations to Sterling's Aaron Reyes who was named King of the Week by your votes this week!
