ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Fewer area teams are involved in the bigger classifications but that doesn't limit the chances of teams advancing. Several area teams are very capable of going deep in the schedule!

Class 4A (Boys)

The Sterling Tiger Boys are a #1 seed and sit in Region II of the field.  Because they were a Top16 team, they get a bye for the first round on Tuesday, February 23.  They'll also get to host a set of Round of 32/Sweet 16 games because they are a Top 8 team.  They'll do that on Friday and Saturday February 26 and 27.  Here's a look at the schedule for action in Wally Post this weekend (with station of coverage listed in parenthases):

  • Friday, 2-26 at 5:30pm - Centaurus beat Pueblo West 33-31
  • Friday, 2-26 at 7:00pm - Sterling topped Mitchell  68-55
  • Saturday, 2-27 at 6:00pm - Sterling vs. Centaurus (KSTC)

Class 4A (Girls)

The Sterling Lady Tigers snuck into the field as an 11-seed and were placed in Region IV.  Because they were one of the final 16 teams to garner a berth, they have a long road to haul - literally.  Every one of their remaining games will be on the road.  Here's a look at the first week schedule/results (with station of coverage listed in parenthases):

  • Tuesday, 2-23 at 7pm - Sterling topped D'Evelyn 53-47
  • Friday, 2-26 at 5:30pm - Sterling lost to Cheyenne Mountain 67-55

Class 3A (Boys)

The Yuma Indians and Brush Beetdiggers are the top two teams in the Patriot League tournament that is already underway.  The field has been narrowed down to 8 teams and action will get underway once again on Tuesday with action moving to UNC and Highland HS on Thursday and Friday.  Here's a look at the schedule for area teams (in bracket order, with network station of coverage in parenthases):
